Many of us in the scam prevention world keep asking the question, “Why are cryptocurrency ATMs legal?” In 2026, Indiana, Tennessee, and Minnesota have enacted total statewide bans on cryptocurrency ATMs. Hawaii recently enacted a new state law that bans cash deposits at cryptocurrency ATMs. More than a dozen states are currently pursuing active legislation to either heavily restrict or completely ban these machines.
